These are images from a 1991 Japanese television documentary on NHK about a young artist (me) trying to find success in the New York art world. They followed me around with a camera crew for a few days.
It was called ‘Up and Coming Artist’. That title still makes me cringe.

Part of the film was shot at the Jan Krugier Gallery on 57th and Madison where I worked for 5 years as an art handler. Krugier specialized in highbrow modernism, this Picasso ‘Madonna and Child’ from his 1920s post-cubist-neo-classical phase being a potent example.
