Gas Separator with Neil Jenney designed frame
On 7/13/07 the NY Times described Neil’s frames:
‘Integral to Mr. Jenney’s paintings are the enormously exaggerated black frames that surround them, recalling the heaviness and simplicity of 16th-century Dutch frames, made by the artist himself. Mr. Jenney considers both picture and frame as a sculpture. He takes his frames so seriously that he often fits his canvases to the frame openings rather than the other way around. Do they help the pictures? The question is moot, since they are the pictures, or part of them. In any case their idiosyncrasy is pure Jenney.’ Grace Glueck NY Times.
